Protective Orders and Divorce

In Utah, I see protective orders used a lot in divorces. It seems like an easy way for people to grab a house and the children in a simple way. The other side of that coin is that I see them abused and used when they shouldn’t be. Because the Courts are so busy it will be at least 2 to 3 weeks before they get into Court and therefore the house and children have been taken from the other parent.

Protective orders should be reserved for those that they were intended. If you have been abused or feel threatened you should file a protective order. If you have had a protective order filed against you it is in your best interest to have an attorney represent you. Protective orders are not something that should be taken lightly, they can affect your life.
