Police Officer Steed | DUI Utah News

Disgraced and uncredible Steed asks for her job back

During a recent two-day administrative hearing on Utah’s capitol hill, former Utah Highway Patrol officer Lisa Steed admitted to “making mistakes” and acknowledged that she “screwed up,” and asked administrative law judge Katherine Fox that she be reinstated at the UHP.  A determination is not expected from Judge Fox until July.

Steed is a former Trooper of the Year awardee and was credited with making more than 1,000 DUI arrests before two separate judges, one in the Third District Court, the other in the Second, found that she lied on the stand.  In addition to Steeds unreliable and false testimony in open court, Steed was internally reprimanded in 2010 by UHP for falsifying police reports.  As a consequence of Steed’s apparent lack of credibility, some prosecutors have declined to pursue DUI charges in which Steed is the principal witness.

Department of Public Safety Commissioner Lance Davenport testified at the administrative hearing and said that Steed’s history of policy violations were “serious in nature,” and firing her from UHP was the right thing to do.  Steed, however, attempted to mollify the violations, calling them “dings” against her.

Judge Fox’s determination will be posted here as soon as it becomes available.
