Everything You’ve Ever Wondered About the Great Salt Lake

Everything You’ve Ever Wondered About the Great Salt Lake

Hands down, Salt Lake City is one of the most intriguing cities in Utah. How much do you really know about it? If you have lived here long enough or visited enough times, you probably know your way around town quite well. But besides that, do you really know as much as you should about your home town? You probably have a few unanswered questions that you never bothered to follow up. I did too but I also took the time to do little research on this city. Please allow me to share the answer to some of the questions I had.

  • How deep is the Great Salt Lake?

Ans: The Lake is an average of about 13 ft.

  • On average, how much snow falls in the mountains near SLC?

Ans: About 500 in. of snow.

  • Will I be able to get a drink in SLC?

Ans: Yes! There are tons of bars in SLC, many of which serve ‘the good stuff.’ In fact, there are 12 breweries which operate in the area.

  • How far are the ski resorts from Downtown?

Ans: The resorts are about 30 to 45 minutes away from the heart of the city.

  • Is it safe to ride my bike in SLC?

Ans: Yes. The city is filled with facilities to keep both individuals who ride motor bikes and bicycles safe.  This includes over 150 miles of special bike lanes and a lane that loops around the entire Downtown area.

  • What are the people like in Salt Lake City?

Ans: You will be pleased to see how friendly the people are here. Perhaps it’s the beautiful weather or the view of the snow capped mountains, but something here is keeping the people very happy.

  • How did the Salt Lake get its name?

Ans: The Lake earned than named because it has been scientifically proven to be approximately 4 times saltier than the water in any ocean. Just so you don’t have to ask why it is so salty, let me go ahead and tell you that the high concentration of salt occurs because the lake has no river or stream leading to the sea.

  • What is the nightlife like in Salt Lake City?

Ans: SLC has a pretty active night life. Like most cities, it has clubs, free concerts and tons of restaurants to choose from. Unfortunately, everything is closed on a Sunday. If you’re accustomed to life in a city like New York, that never sleeps, this may take some getting used to.

  • Is it easy to navigate around the city?

Ans: Salt Lake City is basically a very well designed grid. All the streets run from north to south and east to west and Downtown forms the center of the grid. Plus, since people there are so friendly, you can easily ask for directions.

If you are contemplating a move to this city, chances are, you will have a lot to consider. It would not be impossible for me to create a list of all the possible questions you have in mind. This is a great city, but you may need to a little more research before you can decide whether it is right for you and your family. I should warn you though, it is quite easy to fall in love with this place.

Everything You’ve Ever Wondered About the Great Salt Lake

An adversary proceeding is a lawsuit within a bankruptcy case. These occur if many situations, but the most common are where a creditor believes the debtor has concealed or disposed of property of the estate, committed fraud on a creditor when making a loan application, or when a creditor or debtor seeks an absolute determination of the dischargeability of a particular debt.

Creditors in Adversary Proceedings

Arnold and Wadsworth is fully equipped to handle an adversary proceeding for a creditor. These begin by filing an adversary proceeding (this is akin to a complaint in a normal civil lawsuit) after you are served with notice of the bankruptcy by the court or the debtor. There is a timeline when these must be filed, however, and you must be diligent. There is a filing fee and the complaint must be served.

Debtors in Adversary Proceedings

As a debtor, you must be prepared to defend yourself as if you had been sued in any other civil action. This will cost you money, but if you prevail you are entitled to a judgment for all attorney fees against the creditor that sued you. Often, creditors are just trying to get you to settle for some amount and really don’t want to pursue the action. You must file an answer to the adversary proceeding complaint and be prepared to litigate the case to its end.

Arnold Wadsworth & Coggins has handled multiple adversary proceedings for clients. We often handle cases that are referred by other bankruptcy attorneys that don’t handle adversary proceedings, because Arnold Wadsworth & Coggins handles mainly general civil litigation cases, we are well equipped to represent either creditors or debtors in these cases.
