Why I Choose To Live in Ogden, UT

Ogden, Utah is not one of the most popular cities this side of town. While everyone has heard of New York City, only a handful of people can speak about Ogden. The residents here are however quite fond of this little city. It is both historic and beautiful. This may very well be a great place for your family to settle. If you are considering a move here, please consider some helpful information that I have gathered about Ogden.

Ogden was ranked the 6th best place in the US to raise your family. Housing here is always pretty affordable. You can rent a decent sized home here for just about $1000 per month. Homes are also readily available for you to purchase and there are options suitable for any budget. Middle income communities have family homes for about $100,000 and high income communities will of course have larger houses that cost more. Homes in Ogden have also appreciated by about 6% in the last 12 months and the median price for homes in the city is about $125,000. This means that now is a great time to buy a home in Ogden and put down some roots.

The cost of living is relatively low. Finding a job in Ogden is generally not very difficult and the unemployment rate is in line with the national average. Be warned however that these jobs may pay a little less than you would get it other cities. But this does not pose an issue since everything here is so affordable. The IRS and Mckay Dee Hospital are among the top employers in Ogden.

This city is also ranked 194th when compared to other green cities. The area is thus filled with lush green parks and beautiful wetlands. These areas are generally well maintained and ideal for children of all ages to play and frolic. The crime rate here is relatively low and it is not uncommon for you to see people choosing to bike their way around town. I have children, so a having a place for them to play, that didn’t cost an arm and a leg was high up on my priority list. Having my children cooped up in a small city apartment was just not an option for me.

I was also happy to move to Ogden because the lush greenery meant that my husband and I could spend a lot of time outdoors as well. There are tons of hiking trails and biking lanes throughout the city. We are very fond of the great nature and this city takes their responsibility to be stewards of the environment seriously. My research before I moved here also indicated that while the night life here was a little slower that I was used to, there are tons of restaurants and sports bars around Ogden. That means we can always find somewhere fancy for date night or to hang out with friends. We work hard and we like to play hard too.

I must admit that everything here moves quite slowly. People drive slowly even in the fast lane. But that is also another advantage of living in Ogden. We were tired of the constant hustle and bustle and wanted to simplify our lives. We are a lot less stressed here and we do not regret the move one bit.
