Outdoor Winter Activities Around Salt Lake City

Winters can sometimes be quite boring. When you are not snowed in or removing ice from your driveways and cars, you have to spend the rest of the time cooped up inside. But it does not have to be this way all winter. If you have a little imagination and some money budgeted for entertainment, you can have an awesome time this winter. You could spend a little time tonight doing some research about fun activities or you can review my list of some awesome outdoor activities that you can do this winter.

Clark Planetarium

Winter can be brutal and staying warm will be very high up on your priority list. Visiting a nice warm planetarium is thus a great winter activity for the whole family. It is free to visit the Clark Planetarium and learn more about the vast universe. It stays open until 11:00 pm on Fridays so you may want to consider this when planning date night as well. If you want to participate in any of the special activities like the IMAX movie or you want to watch the cosmic light show, you will have to pay a fee of about $9.

Utah Olympic Park

Visiting the Utah Olympic Park is a great option during winter if it is not too cold outside. This park has a combination of hiking trails, a museum and an awesome Mountain Challenge. If you are tired of being cooped up at home and you are in the mood for an adventure, this is the place for you. Admission is free, but the tours can run you anywhere from $5 to $10.

Jungle Jim’s Playland

Jungle Jim’s was designed to appeal to very young children. This place has everything; bounce houses, carnival rides and even arcade games. You would expect a place like this to be pretty expensive but the cost is only $10 and there are no additional charges to the parent or guardian of that child. Additionally, they have a special promotion on Tuesdays which takes the price down to about $2.

Wheeler Historic Farm

Wheeler Historic Farm is another great option for winter. You will have the opportunity to learn more about what life was like when the world was simple and to get up close and personal with a variety of animals. The attractions there like the wagon rides will cost less than $3, so you will not have to break your piggy bank in order to have a great time.

Skiing

It goes without saying that skiing will need to be a part of your winter activities around Salt Lake City. This is especially so since four of the best skiing resorts in the nation, are found in SLC, Utah. You can even make a reservation to spend a little time at one of these resorts since they are priced competitively. There is really nothing for you to be afraid of when you decide to go skiing. The slopes are specially designed to ensure that you can be safe and have a great time whether you are an expert at skiing or not.
